My paintings are vibrant, rich, textured depictions of place and journey, both imagined and from actual experience.
Through multiple layers I build a story that gradually takes on its own identity.
I love the idea that painting intuitively allows symbolism and stories to emerge, that may not occur through language alone, yet engaging you in an on-going conversation.
Most of my paintings are part of a series which allows me to develop multiple ideas along a common theme. Occasionally I pursue a single new idea, these become individual images separate from a series.
The direction of a painting, for me, is not predetermined. At the beginning the outcome is unknown and for some time, ambiguous; I am constantly asking “what if…..?” and then listen to the intuitive nudges that come whispering as I apply one layer after another.
